Wyatt was Chancellor and CEO of Vanderbilt University from 1982 to 2000. While a faculty member and Vice President of Harvard University, he was also a founding director and Vice Chairman of the Massachusetts Technology Development Corporation in 1978. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences' Strategic Education Research Partnership (SERP), which also included John S. Reed.
